Kwik Rink Ice Rink

Kwik Rink is a pioneering company in the synthetic ice rink industry whose products are a top choice among both competitive athletes and recreational skaters. This project involved manufacturing synthetic ice panels for Kwik Rink and integrating a company logo into the synthetic ice surface. Installed at the Target Headquarters, the ice rink highlighted here is emblazoned with their easily recognizable “bull’s-eye” corporate logo.

Opportunity

With our leadership position in the fabricated plastics market, Classic Acrylics, Inc. leveraged our scope of capabilities to design and manufacture custom panels. These panels needed to fit together in a puzzle-like fashion with smooth, seamless, non-mechanical connections. We worked side-by-side with the customer at the design stage to ensure the pieces fit together perfectly

Solution

Using CAD/CAM software, we engineered a solution for integrating the company logo into the overall rink design. Production involved building custom-designed tooling as well as high accuracy CNC machining to achieve close dimensional tolerances of ±.005″ on each manufactured piece. Construction featured Kwik Rink’s 5th generation synthetic ice material, which features internal dry lubricants to provide an exceptionally realistic ice surface for skaters.

Results

We completed the entire project within two weeks. When installed, each panel in the rink dovetailed flawlessly. With all of the panels lining up correctly, the logo had a seamless appearance, and the tight fit ensured a smooth surface for skating. We made a good impression on Kwik Rink, and with our problem-solving skills and close-tolerance machining capabilities, we continue to work together with them on many other custom projects.
